The largest ice cave in the world

A 70-meter gallery leads us to discover the ancient ice of the Fee glacier, in Switzerland

Descent to the Saas-Fee grotto

To get to the largest ice cave in the world, you have to go to Saas-Fee, famous for its 155 kilometers of ski slopes, and this attraction is accessed through a 70-meter gallery that leads through the ancient ice of the Fee glacier, when you have already reached an altitude of 3,500 meters. The cave of more than 5,500 m³ in extension , renovated in 2016, offers a deep look inside the glacier, where you can touch the millennial ice from different times, be amazed with a staging of what would be a snow avalanche with real sounds, and admire various ice sculptures, such as Mickey Mouse or a dragon.

When you leave the cave, another surprise awaits: Going up some stairs you reach the revolving restaurant located at the highest altitude on Earth , which offers in one hour a 360-degree panoramic view of the glacial and mountainous world of the Saas Valley. The Mittelallalin is also the starting point for high mountain tours , excursions through the Alps and glaciers , skiing down to the village of Saas-Fee. The price of the entrance to the cave is 10 CHF and the day of a ski day on the slopes of Saas-Fee. CHF 72.

Saas-Fee is called "The Pearl of the Alps" because it is a town located 1,800 meters high and surrounded by 13 peaks with heights greater than 4,000 m. The Saas Valley has 350 km of thematic and hiking trails, as well as special activity programs for families and children, and has 22 mountain railways, including the famous Metro Alpin, which takes visitors to the revolving restaurant. Once in the village, it is worth visiting the Saas Museum to discover what the old houses of the valley were like, the traditional costumes and artifacts, and, above all, to see how the glacier has receded considerably due to climate change in the last hundred years .
